Re-Engineering Education is a fictional story that illustrates the obstacles and victories that can be had in reformation of the American education system. Jeff Schuster weaves together a story that is engaging and highlights many of the problems with the American education system. He uses a colorful set of characters at the highest levels of the U.S. government who, despite their conniving ways, set in motion legislation that revolutionizes the way education happens in America. Instead of just echoing obvious problems, Schuster paints a clear vision on how things can change for the better. Bruce Kensington is the first Independent to win the U.S. Presidency and has unique ideas on how to correct the education system in the United States. Unfortunately, he must battle entrenched party politics and corrupting influences in the system to get what he wants. With no majority party in either chamber in congress, President Kensington must navigate the legislative and court systems to move his agenda forward. After he gets what he wants, he wonders if he has irreparably destroyed education when disappointing media stories highlight his grand mistake. If you struggle with why our education system has been failing despite the constant attention paid to it by politicians and bureaucrats, this story will help you think differently about our problems with education and experience some radical changes that can work.
